A fantastic day in the field: Min-the-wonder-dog, the new Cash-dog, and I headed out to play in the Lake Range, east of Pyramid Lake. It was just a short jaunt, but a lot of fun. It became very obvious that Cash’s former owners had never taken him out for a hike before – he was enjoying himself greatly (and behaving incredibly well) – but the “what the hell?!” look on his face was hilarious, as he made his way around a talus slope and realized that the earth underneath his feet was a whole lot less than stable. He’s coming along nicely. It started off pretty cloudy, then cleared into a gorgeous warmish cerulean, with a half moon high above.

Ok, this doesn’t show it quite as well as I’d hoped, but Min and Cash running up the steep slope – and if Cash looks awkward to you, he really really was!
Red rock alcove -- can sort of see the sandstone layer underneath that is so much more easily eroded
Cash curled up on the rock I forswore … that thing was seriously uncomfortable! Neat lichen, though.
The Pyramid Lake Frog-Monster Waves “Hi!”
After we headed down to the bottom of the hill, we turned north a short ways to look at Fremont's Pyramid and the Stone Mother, weeping for her long-lost children up in the Pitt River region. Well, I looked ... the dogs curled up and snored.
The Pyramid for which the lake is named; the Stone Mother with her basket is there
in front of the Pyramid, but the angle doesn't show her at her best
